Troubleshooting
Android says it cannot install unknown apps
Firebase App Distribution installs beta builds outside Google Play, so Android may ask you to approve the app that downloaded the Elevate installer.
- Open the Elevate Android beta link and tap Download.
- If Android shows a message such as For your security, your phone is not allowed to install unknown apps from this source, tap Settings.
- Turn on Allow from this source for the app you used to open the link. For most testers, switch on App Tester and Chrome.
- Go back to Firebase, Downloads, or Files and tap the downloaded Elevate APK again.
- Tap Install, then Open.

Switch on App Tester and Chrome so Firebase can download and install the Elevate beta.
Tip
After Elevate is installed, you can turn Allow from this source off again.
If the warning does not show a Settings button, search your phone settings for Install unknown apps. On many Android phones this is under Settings → Apps → Special app access → Install unknown apps. On Samsung phones and tablets, open Settings → Apps, tap the three vertical dots in the top-right menu, then choose Special access → Install unknown apps.
Work-managed phones
If the setting is missing or greyed out, your device may be restricted by an employer, school, Family Link, or Google Workspace policy. Use a personal Android phone or ask your device administrator to allow Firebase App Distribution installs.
The invite email has not arrived
Check your spam or junk folder, then search your inbox for Firebase App Distribution, TestFlight, or Elevate. If you still cannot find it, ask the beta team to resend the invite.
The verification code has not arrived
Check that the email address on the sign-up screen is correct. Then check spam or junk and wait for the countdown timer before requesting a fresh code.
